SHyNE Education and Outreach

The Soft and Hybrid Nanotechnology Experimental (SHyNE) Resource has several education and outreach programs:

·         The SHyNE Resource has an active and exciting education program, through collaborative and individual research, internationally and within the Northwestern University and the University of Chicago communities.  Our program is well-known for the development of an outstanding, well-trained and highly informed undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral workforce in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

·         Local teachers, museums and members of the community are encouraged to visit the SHyNE facilities. We have open house visits, demonstrations and presentations on how nanotechnology affects our daily lives.

·         We offer opportunities for children of all ages to learn about the nanoscience research that takes place in our facilities, which includes presentations and hands-on tours.  Examples of our education program for children includes outreach to area high schools, and “Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day”.

·         We also have a dynamic Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.  Undergraduates gain valuable experience working closely with our facility managers and postdocs on nanoscale science and engineering research projects.
