SDNI Education and Outreach

The San Diego Nanotechnology Infrastructure (SDNI) education and outreach efforts consist of year-round activities as well as summer programs.

·         Public Outreach: SDNI in partnership with the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center’s 52 weeks of Science Program provides STEM community outreach events in Logan Heights. SDNI is collaboratively working with the Boys & Girls club, providing lab tours and engaging nanoscience activities to elementary and middle school students.

·         REU: SDNI Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) recruits and trains students in the interdisciplinary field of nano-photonics, nano-medicine, and nano-magnetics through hands-on research projects. The application portal for this summer program can be found at:

·         RET: SDNI Research Experience for Teachers (RET) recruits middle and high school teachers to the labs to learn about research nanoscience and take it back to their classrooms. Participating teachers are provided with training to remotely access the scanning electron microscope for real world exposure to nanotechnology.
