Science Outside the Lab 2021 - Applications Now Open

Science Outside the Lab typically brings a small cohort of graduate student scientists and engineers to Washington, D.C. to explore the relationships among science, innovation, and policy. Because of the current COVID-19 situation, the 2021 edition of Nano SOtL will be held virtually. Over the course of two weeks (May 31-June 11), students will meet online with policymakers from across Washington, DC and beyond for two hours/day (1pm-3pm Eastern Time / 10am-Noon Pacific Time). The goal is to expose participants to as many different viewpoints as possible and help them understand how people and institutions influence and learn from science.

Graduate students affiliated with the NNCI and the universities that participate in the NNCI are especially encouraged to apply to this program. We are looking for candidates who are interested in how decisions are made about science and innovation funding, regulation, and policy. Read more about the program here.
