Exploring the Properties of Magic Sand: Hydrophobic Materials

Magic sand is ordinary sand that has been engineered hydrophobic material. In this lesson, students will: 1. explore the properties of molecular bonding; 2. learn about the engineering of a hydrophobic surface; 3. explore the concepts of hydrophobic and hydrophilic behavior; and 4. explore polarity (polar and non- polar molecules) and inter-molecular forces.
